MACKENZIE COUNTRY

Twizel is a 3.5 hour trip from Christchurch or 2 hour trip from Queenstown international airport.
Twizel boasts a resident population of just over 1000 people, which can swell to 20,000, including the surrounding camping areas, at the height of the summer. Thankfully not too many of these visitors are full time anglers. Twizel has some great restaurants and plenty of good accommodation from luxury lodges to budget backpackers.

The weather in the early part of the season can be unpredictable with sunny skies in the morning followed by snow in the afternoon, therefore foul weather gear is a must. It's a good idea to bring a second rod in case one breaks. 4, 5, and 6 weight rods are a good choice, although at times a heavy rod in the wind can work best. I recommend having darker colored lines as the bright colors are visible to fish.

Mossburn or Te Anau - gateway to Milford Sound and Fiordland National Park, is an excellent  base to access some of New Zealand's top fly fishing rivers.

The world-renowned destination of Queenstown is home to incredible fly fishing amongst New Zealand's most spectacular scenery.  We can base your trip here and explore the waters of the Greenstone, Oreti and the Mataura or many other fine fly fishing locations.
